#MakeItTV is coming soon!

Sep 25, 2014 | Sparkly Love

I know that my last update was really brief and didn’t explain too much of what I’ve been up to for the past while. Lately, I’ve been feeling super excited but pretty overwhelmed with everything that is on my plate. I’m sure if you are an entrepreneur you can probably relate to what I’m referring to. It’s always so fun to come up with new, creative ideas but when the time comes to start doing all the work it can feel like a never ending to-do list!

Last week I began filming my #MakeItTV documentary video series. It was something that I had been working towards and planning for a very long time. Many obstacles had presented themselves over the past year that really tested my commitment to the project. There were moments when I wanted to quit and return all the Indiegogo money that my community generously contributed. It felt so overwhelming to try to complete the project on my own, and it seemed like everything that could go wrong inevitably did. I’ve certainly going through a lot of heartache as an entrepreneur over the last 12 years, but this was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.

But as we all know, if you suffer long enough and battle through the turbulent uncertainty, eventually something good comes along. A few months ago my close friend Annika Reinhardt of Social Bites put me in touch with a video production company that was recommended by a client of hers. After sitting down with the owner of Blue Chip Productions, Nick, and hearing his enthusiasm for my project I felt a sense of ease. He totally understood and valued the importance of sharing the stories of artists who are able to do what they love as a career.

Everything after that seemed to fall into place pretty darn effortlessly. The shooter hired to film my series is Jon Kruth who has his own highly popular series called Green Couch Session. Him and his girlfriend found a cool looking, vintage green couch in a back alley and decided it would be a great idea to film Canadian bands performing on it. This infamous couch has now travelled across Canada, and some pretty impressive musicians including Hey Ocean, Wintersleep and Bend Sinister have played on it. If you love music (and who doesn’t!) you need to check out Green Couch Sessions.

My experience filming last week was surreal. It finally felt like things clicked into place and were coming together the way I had always dreamed they would. I interviewed 8 Makies in their studio space (click here to see who I interviewed along with some action shots!) and it was so incredible to see where they did their work and hear what inspires them to do what they love. Each one of their stories touched me in a different and profound way. The days we filmed were long, but I came home every night feeling a sense of giddiness I hadn’t felt in a very long time.

All the artists I interviewed so far for #MakeItTV come from different backgrounds and have faced various challenges, but one thing that unites them all is the relentless pursuit of doing what they are passionate about. They made a decision somewhere along the way that what brings them joy and happiness matters enough to take it seriously. The journey hasn’t been a cake walk for any of them, but each day they consciously choose to do what they love.

Sharing this message is the whole reason I wanted to create a documentary in the first place. I feel like there is so much pressure to conform, play it safe, have a job with benefits, that it’s really easy to loose sight of the purpose and brevity of life. If you don’t do what makes you happy now, then when? It’s so easy to put things off until someday, but every time you walk away from your dreams, I think they die a little bit. Your desires deserve more respect!

I’m nervously excited to share #MakeItTV with you in a couple weeks. Right now each episode is being edited and I know that whatever is released from Blue Chip Productions will look awesome! Because the process has been so much fun, and I believe in the message so strongly, I would love to be able to keep making videos. Please make sure you follow along #MakeItTV on social media and I will send out the YouTube channel once it’s confirmed.

Thank you again for all of your ongoing support and I can’t wait to share the first episode of #MakeItTV with you 🙂

Sparkly love,
Jenna
