Over the weekend I spent a big chunk of time in front of a computer finishing up my book proposal. I’ve been working on it for the last 2 months and I told myself that this was the weekend I was finally going to finish! I sent all 20 pages off to my book agent today and am very excited (and nervous!) to hear her feedback. The idea for the book is to share my own experience and help other people start and grow a business doing what they love.
While I was writing, I reflected upon what it was like at the beginning of my own entrepreneurial journey. I started my first business, Booty Beltz 10 years ago when I was still a student at the University of Alberta. I was 22, had no idea what I was doing, and made some very costly mistakes along the way. When I think back, I remember longing for someone to just tell me what to do so that I could grow my business and finally live the life I always dreamed about. This life included being able to travel around the world, do what I’m passionate about and be financially independent.
Over the last 6 years I’ve been able to grow Make It to what it is today by working hard, learning as much as possible and making connections. I am thrilled to say my life looks a lot like what I used to dream about. This did not happen overnight, and just two and half years ago I was at a cross roads because I knew I wanted to help more of the people I worked with grow their businesses, but I didn’t know how to do this in a scalable way. I had no idea how to make a real impact doing this or make any money.
The universe has an interesting way of giving us answers when we need it the most, because this was when Marie Forleo came on my radar.
